IGNITE App is an iPad application developed by BusyMachines for Kareinn. The main beneficiary of the app was the Genetic Frontotemporal Dementia Initiative (GENFI), a group of research centres across Europe and Canada.
The IGNITE application is aimed at helping healthcare professionals diagnose genetic Frontotemporal Dementia. The main app demographic are both people who have developed symptoms and people who are at risk of developing symptoms in the future because they carry an abnormal genetic mutation. The app includes tests specifically developed to speed up dementia diagnosis and understand the disease development from its early stages. The key objective of GENFI is to develop markers that help identify the disease and track its progression. These markers will be used in future clinical trials of drugs in genetic FTD.
The main technical challenge was the integration of an offline database and the animations for a specific test, the Balloon fair test.
What we did
For the Proof of Concept (PoC) phase, BusyMachines built an iPad mobile application with 30+ visual puzzles & games. The app also works offline. Our team worked closely both with Kareinn founders and the GENFI researchers to clearly understand the test specificity and the application body. We had daily contact with the GENFI researchers, released often and kept all the stakeholders involved through weekly product demos.
We didn’t have the in-house resources, so we hired BusyMachines as an external partner. They managed the project effectively—we always felt understood and communicated with. They’ve met all deadlines and give us exemplary communication; language and time differences were not issues.
